June 1 - Sign Up and Register Begins for the Following Summer Children's Programs:
  • Pint-sized Polkas! Uncle Mike’s Polka Meets the World! Monday, June 10 at 2:00 pm. Free tickets available June 1.
  • Petits Cours de Français Mini-French Lessons. (All Ages) Thursdays at 6:30 pm, June 13, 20 & 27. (PROGRAM FULL)
  • Llama, Llama Read With Mama! (For the Younger Set) Saturday, June 22 at 10 am. Free tickets available June 1.
  • Movie Matinees. Thursdays at 2:00 pm, June 13, 20, 27, July 11 & 18. Free tickets weekly at the Circulation Desk Small. Children must be supervised by parent. Parents need tickets to attend.
  • Let's Make Travel Games & Map Crafts (4th-8th grade).  Friday, June 28. Sess.1: 11am-12 noon. Sess.2: 2–3pm. Register June 1.
  • Bobby Norfolk, Emmy-Winning Storyteller, Presents Anansi, The Spider Stories. Wednesday, July 10 at 1:00 pm. Free tickets available June 1.
  • Bookworm ReadingSummer Reading Finale Babaloo. Summer Reading Prizes & Reading Ribbons will be awarded afterward. Saturday, July 20 at 10 am. Free tickets at registration table downstairs.

  • OPEN HELP: Get help with any technology issue. Learn to use your computer, cell phone or tablet. See how to use your email or Facebook. Get help with downloading ebooks and audiobooks. Practice on our computers or bring your own. Anyone is welcome. Come anytime from 9:00-2:00 pm. Every Thursday 5/30, 6/6, 6/13, 6/27, 7/18, 7/25 PLEASE NOTE: OPEN HELP IS CANCELED ON THURSDAY, 6/20 and 7/4, 7/11
  • IPAD 101: Get to know your iPad. Learn how to install and remove apps, videos and pictures. See what the iPad can do for you. All are welcome. Monday, 6/10 2:00-3:30pm
  • DOWNLOADING EBOOKS: Learn how to download eBooks, audiobooks, music and videos from the library onto your computer, Nook, Kindle, iPad or your smart phone. Use our equipment or bring your own. Saturday, 6/29 noon-1:30pm
  • DIGITAL CAMERAS: Take pictures and put them on the computer. We will practice together and see how it works. Monday, 7/8 10:00-11:30pm
  • EMAIL HELP: Learn how to use your email account. Don’t forget to bring your username and password. All skill levels welcome. Monday, 7/22 12:30-1:00pm

Meet the Artist with R. Michael Fisher
Fisher's Artwork - SmallArtist R. Michael Fisher will hold two "Meet the Artist" events to discuss and explain his art exhibition, "Mixed Messages USA: A Brief Retrospective, 2008-2013." The first event, Thursday, May 30, from 2-3pm, will be a tour of his current exhibit at the library. The second event, Tuesday, June 11th, from 12-1pm will be a "Brown Bag" event. Participants are encouraged to bring their lunch and enjoy a slide show, tour and discussion of Fisher's work in the Community Room at the library.

Free Film Through Community Cinema, Last Saturday Of Each Month Sept - June
Community Cinema Schedule WSIU and the Carbondale Public Library invite you to a second season of free film screenings through Community Cinema, a national civic engagement initiative designed to bring communities together to discuss key social issues of our time and take action that can change lives. Film screenings will be held at the library, at 2:30pm on the last Saturday of each month, from Sept 2012 through June 2013. See Community Cinema Spring 2013 Schedule...

Local and regional artists may now apply to exhibit their works at the Carbondale Public Library. Artwork will be hung on the ramps leading to the upper and lower floors of the library. Library staff will sell artwork and collect a small commission to be donated to the library. Exhibits will last from six to eight weeks. Art organizations and individual artists are encouraged to apply. Interested artists can apply by filling out the CPL Art Exhibit Application, Agreement and Information form available on our website or at the library circulation desk. Summer Youth Volunteers Needed
Summer Youth Volunteer TableVolunteers aged 12 to 17 are sought to help with Summer Reading program registration and special events. Applications are available at the circulation desk or below. Youths are required to volunteer once per week from June 10th-July 19th. Application deadline is June 6th.

Morningstar Mutual Funds Now Available Online
Morningstar Mutual Funds (paper version) is being discontinued at the library. You can now access the online version from home or at the library. 
You will have access to their classic one-page summaries, as well as detailed mutual fund, stock, and exchange-traded fund analysed reports, real-time data, and investment tools.

This useful website and many others can be found on our website by clicking on "Research Databases, Book Suggestions & Other Resources for You!" (located on the upper left hand of our website) and then selecting "Research Databases."
