  • OPEN HELP: Each Thursday 9:00-2:00 pm Get help with any technology issue. Learn to use your computer, cell phone or tablet. See how to use your email or Facebook. Get help with downloading ebooks and audiobooks. Practice on our computers or bring your own. Anyone is welcome. Come anytime from 9:00-2:00 pm. 
  • DIGITAL CAMERAS: Wednesday, April 16 at 9:30-10:30 pm Take pictures and learn how to put them on the computer. We will practice together and see how it works. Bring your camera, cords and anything else. 
  • DOWNLOADING EBOOKS: Wednesday, April 30 at 1:00-2:00 pm Learn how to download eBooks, audiobooks, music and videos from the library onto your computer, Nook, Kindle, iPad or your smart phone. Use our equipment or bring your own.

Teen Poetry Contest March 17th – April 17th
Aspiring Poets in the Carbondale area, enter the library’s 6th annual Teen Poetry Contest to showcase your talents and win CASH prizes! Just fill out the form below, submit along with your poem(s), and come to our Teen Poetry Event on April 29th. Contest is open to all Teens (ages 12-19, or grades 7-12), beginning March 17th.

Art Exhibits at the Library
Synthesis - May 15Celebrating National Poetry Month in conjunction with Art Exhibits at the Library, The Carbondale Public Library presents 'Synthesis', a collection of digital collage and poetry by Kathleen Cotton. The exhibit will be displayed through May 15th.

Local and regional artists may now apply to exhibit their works at the Carbondale Public Library. Artwork will be hung on the ramps leading to the upper and lower floors of the library. Library staff will sell artwork and collect a small commission to be donated to the library. Exhibits will last from six to eight weeks. Art organizations and individual artists are encouraged to apply. Interested artists can apply by filling out the CPL Art Exhibit Application, Agreement and Information form available on our website or at the library circulation desk. Sunday by Bike in Carbondale MapApril 27, 2014 from 12:30-5:00 pm you are invited "Sunday by Bike in Carbondale". Short or long routes available (3-15 minutes).

Take a break at one of the following stops:
  • Carbondale Public Library Japanese Garden: Bike adjustments by Bike Surgeon, and music by Dogwood Flats will be playing from 3:00-5:00 pm, parking and route maps available. 
  • Attucks Park : Kids Bike Rodeo, parking & maps available.

Teen Events (ages 13-17)
  • April 8th (4:00 – 5:00pm): Poetry Activity! We will be creating poetry via blacking out sections of old books. Sounds weird, but the results are awesome! 
  • April 15th (4:00 – 5:00pm): Prepare for World Book Night! Just like last year, we will be getting our books ready for distribution on World Book Night (April 23rd). 
  • April 23rd (4:00pm - ?): World Book Night! This will be taking the place of our TAB (Teen Advisory Board) meeting this month. The designated book givers will be going to various locations to distribute free books! 
  • April 29th (4:00 – 5:00pm): Teen Poetry Reception Winners of the Teen Poetry Contest will be announced!

Poets Encouraged to enter the Illinois Emerging Writers Competition
Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White announces that entry forms are available for the tenth annual Illinois Emerging Writers Competition’s Gwendolyn Brooks Poetry Award.
The competition is named in honor of the late Pulitzer Prize-winning, Illinois Poet Laureate Gwendolyn Brooks. Also, it is co-sponsored by the Illinois Center for the Book and Kevin Stein, who succeeded Brooks as Illinois Poet Laureate.
The competition is open to Illinois residents age 18 and over. Entries must be postmarked by June 30, 2014. The award for first place is $500, second place is $300 and third place is $100; winning poems will be submitted for possible publication in the Ninth Letter, RHINO, and Quiddity magazines and Poetic License Press publications. Winners will recite their poems and receive their prizes at a ceremony later this year at the Illinois State Library in Springfield.

Did you know the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) provides online tax products and services for taxpayers with disabilities? Individuals may visit the IRS Accessibility page (www.irs.gov/uac/IRS.gov-Accessibility) to download forms, publications, and other products and to access tax-related videos in English and American Sign Language. The IRS recommends checking the website often as it is continuously adding more products to assist persons with disabilities.

Morningstar Mutual Funds Now Available Online
Morningstar Mutual Funds (paper version) is being discontinued at the library. You can now access the online version from home or at the library. 
You will have access to their classic one-page summaries, as well as detailed mutual fund, stock, and exchange-traded fund analysed reports, real-time data, and investment tools.

This useful website and many others can be found on our website by clicking on "Research Databases, Book Suggestions & Other Resources for You!" (located on the upper left hand of our website) and then selecting "Research Databases."
